The geometry does not match. The DM18M adapter was originally designed for narrow Milwaukee sockets, and the original DeWalt battery physically cannot go deeper into it: its wide plastic "shoulders" simply rest against the narrow slots of the adapter. The contacts are extended just enough to allow current to flow, but there is no reliable mechanical fixation — the latch hangs in the air.

“DeWalt to Makita” is a universal adapter for Milwaukee connectors, just like your DM18M.

It fits well on the Makita tool, but on the DeWalt it fits strangely and incorrectly. It doesn't fully engage with the connector. It doesn't hold tightly on the DeWalt with some play. The bottom of the adapter is like that of another tool, it just fits on the DeWalt.

I bought it for a Hilda impact wrench and a Prostormer trimmer battery. It fits the impact wrench perfectly, but the battery doesn't go all the way in and doesn't lock; the adapter is intended for a slightly different battery, but it works.
